Welcome Series
An automated sequence of 3-5 emails for new subscribers. Open rate: 50-60%.
In practice
The moment someone signs up is the moment of highest interest. It's a golden opportunity.
Common misconception
'A welcome email is a welcome message plus a coupon.' Stores that write only that miss the point. A welcome series should build trust: who we are, why we're different, what customers said, and only then the offer.
How to fix it
Low open rate? (1) a personal subject line, (2) send email 1 immediately, (3) sender name should be a person's name.
Example
A jewelry store: one email plus a coupon converted 14%. Five emails (story + value + reviews + coupon) converted 31%.
Priority
The welcome series is automation #2 (after abandoned cart).
