    Marketing Mix

    Term #200

A combination of all marketing channels and tools: paid advertising, organic (SEO, social), email, influencer, referral, PR. A healthy strategy is diversified across channels rather than relying on just one.

    In practice

A marketing mix is a marketing 'investment portfolio.' Just as you wouldn't put 100% of your money in one stock, you shouldn't put 100% of your marketing budget in Facebook. Diversification means security. Every channel has seasons, ups and downs. A balanced mix means stable revenue.

    Common misconception

'More channels is always better.' No. 7 mediocre channels are worse than 2 excellent ones. Focus beats spread. Add a new channel only once the existing ones work and deliver consistent ROI. Don't spread thin across everything.

    How to fix it

Marketing mix unbalanced? (1) Channel attribution analysis — how much revenue comes from each channel? (2) Channel CAC — how much does a customer cost from each channel? (3) Identify channels with CAC above LTV — cut them, (4) Identify channels with low CAC — grow them. Simple but rarely done.

    Example

Cosmetics store: 85% of budget in Meta. A platform disruption meant Meta traffic dropped. Revenue fell 40% in a week. Fix: 50% Meta, 25% Google, 15% email, 10% influencer. A month later: even when Meta dropped 20%, revenue fell only 9%.

    Priority

Run a quarterly channel-mix review. Goal: no single channel above 50% of total revenue. Build a new channel every quarter — organic, email, referral — channels that reduce paid dependence.
