Customer Lifetime Value Prediction
Using statistical models and AI to predict a customer's expected LTV based on early behavior. Klaviyo offers built-in Predictive CLV. Enables acting early.
In practice
Predictive CLV lets you know: 'this customer, who bought once for $22, is expected to generate $170 over 24 months.' With that knowledge, you'll invest more in retaining them, offer a loyalty program, and raise the maximum allowable CAC.
Common misconception
'Predicting LTV is science fiction.' Klaviyo and Triple Whale calculate Predictive CLV automatically for every customer — no data scientist needed. Accuracy: 75-85% for a 12-month forecast. Good enough for business decisions.
How to fix it
Predictive CLV inaccurate? (1) Check data volume — under 500 customers means insufficient data, (2) Check data quality — missing emails/history skews predictions, (3) Check seasonality — a forecast during peak season won't represent the full year.
Example
Beauty store: Klaviyo's Predictive CLV found 15% of customers with predicted CLV above $220. Created a 'High Value' segment ← VIP treatment: personal shopper, early access, free shipping. Segment retention rate: 78% (vs 41% average).
Priority
Enable Predictive CLV in Klaviyo (built into the $45+ plan). Step 1: view the distribution of predicted CLV. Step 2: create a 'High Predicted Value' segment. Step 3: VIP treatment. Meaningful ROI in 6-12 months.
