BOPIS
Term #68
A customer orders online and picks up in-store. Saves on shipping, and 25% of pickup customers buy an additional item.
In practice
BOPIS wins on both fronts: online convenience plus physical immediacy.
Common misconception
'BOPIS is only for large chains.' Shopify's local pickup feature is free.
How to fix it
Underused? (1) make it visible on the product page, (2) send an SMS when ready for pickup, (3) create a dedicated pickup area, (4) offer a small discount.
Example
A home goods store: 18% of orders were self-pickup, saving $900/month in shipping, and 22% bought an additional in-store item.
Priority
Have a physical store? Enable BOPIS tomorrow. Shopify: Settings → Local Pickup.
