# What is UX – User Experience?

What is UX – User Experience? The overall experience of a visitor interacting with the site — speed, ease, navigation, clarity.

## How it works in practice

UX is the 'silent language' speaking to the visitor. A hard-to-see button, tiny text, confusing navigation — none is decisive alone. Together, they create friction that leads to abandonment. Good UX means minimal friction.

## Common misconception

'UX just means pretty design.' No. A beautiful site with confusing navigation has bad UX. A simple site that leads to purchase in under 3 clicks has excellent UX. UX equals function plus design plus speed plus clarity. Amazon isn't 'pretty' — but its UX is excellent.

## How to fix it

UX issues? (1) Run a 5-second test: show a new person the page for 5 seconds — what do they remember? What's the value proposition? (2) run user testing: ask 5 people to buy a specific product while thinking aloud, (3) watch 10 Hotjar recordings of cart abandoners, (4) test mobile on a real iPhone.

## Real-world example

A Judaica store had a 0.6% CR. User testing revealed 4 of 5 people didn't realize the product image was clickable to zoom. Adding a magnifying-glass icon plus 'click to enlarge' text raised CR to 1.4% — a single UX fix delivering +133% conversions.

## Where to start

Run a UX audit before every campaign. Three weekly checks: (1) session recordings in Clarity, (2) mobile testing on a real device, (3) walking through the checkout flow yourself — does it work smoothly? Found UX issues equal money recovered.
