# What is Server-Side Tracking?

What is Server-Side Tracking? Sending tracking data from a server (not the browser) to ad platforms. Solves iOS 14, ad-blocker, and cookie-restriction issues.

## How it works in practice

Server-side tracking is the 'future' of tracking. Client-side (a regular pixel): iOS 14 blocks it, ad blockers block it, cookies get deleted. Server-side: data travels from your server → Meta/Google. The user can't block it. The data is more accurate.

## Common misconception

'Server-side is too complex for small stores.' There are no-code solutions: Elevar (Shopify), DataQ, Stape. Elevar sets up server-side tracking for Shopify + Meta + Google in under an hour, for $150/month. ROI: conversion match rate rises 25-40% → AI trains better → ROAS rises.

## How to fix it

Server-side tracking not working? (1) Check deduplication — a matching event ID between client and server is essential (without it, data gets double-counted), (2) check that the server container in GTM is running (Cloud Run / AWS Lambda), (3) check test events in Meta Events Manager with server-side as the source.

## Real-world example

Electronics store: client-side pixel reported 180 purchases/month. Meta Conversions API (server-side): 247 purchases (37% more). Meta's AI got more data → better optimization → ROAS rose from 3.2 to 4.6.

## Where to start

Server-side tracking is high priority for stores spending over $2,800/month on paid ads. Shopify: Elevar app. WooCommerce: Stape.io. ROI is already visible in campaign performance in month one.
